Emotionally Healthy Relationships

This course is not just for couples, but covers any type of relationship (family dynamics, professional relationships, friendships, marriages, etc.).

Jesus tells us that people will know we are Christians by our love for one another. And while that sounds great, it can be pretty hard to live out. What about those people that are hard to love? Or the relationships that are complicated, or even when there are unresolved conflicts? How about struggling with unmet expectations in relationships, or our own tendency to pretend things are fine because we just want to be ‘nice’?

Our commitment to a personal relationship with Jesus and to spiritual disciplines does not automatically equip us to love like Jesus. That requires intentional discipleship and the development of some healthy relationship skills.

This powerful 8-week course will equip you with practical tools to really love people in difficult situations and mature into an adult follower of Jesus. The Emotionally Healthy Relationships Course has been developed over a 21-year period to directly address core biblical principles to guide you into an experience of discipleship that will deeply change your life. You will learn 8 practical relationship skills to develop mature, loving relationships with others:

1. Take your community temperature reading
2. Stop mind reading and clarify expectations
3. Genogram your family
4. Explore the iceberg
5. Listen incarnationally
6. Climb the ladder of integrity
7. Fight cleanly
8. Develop a “rule of life” to implement emotionally healthy skills

Since loving others and loving God cannot be separated, you will also grow in your personal, first-hand relationship with Jesus by incorporating stillness, silence, and Scripture as daily life rhythms.

The course will be 8 Thursday evenings: 1, 8, 15 and 29 February, and 7, 14, 21, 28 March.
Doors open at 19.00 for a 19.30 start.
Location: OASE (Van Ostadestraat 234, Amsterdam)

Registration fee: €50 (the fee covers the costs of organising this course. If finances are a problem, please email [email protected])

We will start each night with a teaching and then break up in smaller groups to discuss and practice the skills.
