Who We Are
Hillsong CityCare is the expression of the heart of our church in the local community, mobilising volunteers to serve through our programs, services and projects to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of of people living in in our own backyard.
We have been serving in schools, prisons, nursing homes, hospitals, shelters, detention centres, and in our local neighbourhoods over the past 20 years. The heart behind everything we do, is to see lives of individuals changed so they can lead and impact in every sphere of life. Our mission is to see families strengthened; young people pursue their dreams and vulnerable groups connected into community.
Our programs focus on mobilising our church to foster social inclusion and place value on people living in our community. We do this through Street Teams visitations into local neighbourhoods, nursing homes, homeless communities and shelters. Hillsong Youth Services helps to empower young people through mentoring, the String Movement to disarm bullying and Shine & Strength curriculum and Scripture Classes. We also reach out to prison and detention centre inmates and help move them forward from reoffending through post-support release groups. Playgroups help to connect parents and children in our community in the same season of life that otherwise have no form of social connection. In hard times people can access food and utilities support through our Emergency Relief program, and we also offer free counselling services to many struggling with emotional and mental wellbeing but are unable to pay for the help they need. Finally in order to help us make significant inroads in the community and mobilise the church at large we run our annual Kilo of Kindness food drive, Stuff the Bus Christmas Appeal and Justice Projects (one-day makeovers).
In 2015/16, we are extending our current Transitional Housing Program in Brisbane to include homes that will house women and children moving out of crisis accommodation. The goal is to provide practical, emotional, and spiritual support over 3-6 months so they can take sustainable steps to independence. This year to address the increasing demand for food support through our Emergency Relief Program we are implementing CityCare Storehouses across Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. The ‘Storehouse’ model is a more sustainable approach that will support those in great need with food and household consumables through a minimal handling fee or given complimentary. This program is aimed at restoring dignity and creating a pathway towards greater self-reliance.
These key initiatives and our ongoing services help us to impact lives beyond the walls of our church and stand as a beacon of hope in a world looking for answers.
