OUR WAITING ≠ WASTED

Sep 10 2020

Life often throws curveballs. These can be tough times where we need to wait on Jesus for answers and direction. What I have learnt is that it is in these times of refinement that God is still working. We’re all on this process of becoming more like Jesus. My wonderful mother would pray this over me each night while I was growing up — as there is a day coming where we will look with an unveiled face upon Him having been transformed completely (2 Cor‬ ‭3:18).

2020 has seen a world changing pandemic, church buildings closed (yet church thrives online) and not to mention each & every one of our personal challenges. Perhaps you find yourself in the chaos that is this year recalling the promises of God and wondering: what is the Lord doing this year?

Let’s take a quick look at a story of someone in the Bible who waited on the Lord for His promise in their life. Caleb was one of 12 spies Moses sent to report on the land God had promised to the Israelites when they were enslaved in Egypt. A major life promise to be sure! The spies all returned a report that the land was bountiful – but giants live there. Yet Caleb returned a report with an attitude of faith: “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!” — Numbers‬ ‭13:30‬ ‭NLT‬‬.

But due to the bad reports of other spies.. the Bible says that the people rebelled, wanted a new leader & to go back to Egypt where they were previously slaves! Can you imagine how Caleb must have felt? Pretty deflated I’d imagine! Here he is, he saw potential, promise and what God could do. The others saw problems, frustration, difficulty and failed to see what the Lord was doing. Because of this, Caleb had to wait a total of FORTY FIVE YEARS before he was able to see the promised land. Could you imagine waiting 45 years to see the fulfillment of a promise? (Joshua 14:10-12)

God promised Caleb he would enter the land along with his descendants because he honoured God & had a standout spirit (Numbers 14:24). While we are waiting, let’s not forget Jesus is good and does good! We can be like Caleb and choose to see the good things that God is doing in the midst of chaos. Never forget that as Christ followers He has magnificent plans for us (Jer 29:11), never fails (Joshua 21:45) and is working ALL THINGS together on behalf of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
