THE NEED

Youth crime and involvement in gangs continues to be an issue our nation is facing. Children as young as nine are being drawn into gangs, often to deliver or store drugs.

The number of children found in possession of a knife or offensive weapon has risen by 65 per cent in the last four years alone (England and Wales).

In inner London, just 6.8% of children who drop out of mainstream education pass GCSE Maths and English, compared to the mainstream national average of 59.1%

OUR PARTNERSHIP

One of the ways to reach the vulnerable and at-risk young people of our capital is through our partnership with XLP who work in 7 of the 10 most deprived local authorities in the entire country.

XLP is about creating positive futures for young people growing up on deprived inner-city estates, struggling daily with issues such as family breakdown, poverty, unemployment and educational failure, and living in areas that experience high levels of anti-social behaviour, criminality and gang activity.

XLP ’s approach is to bring about sustainable change through committed and consistent relationships. The relationship can restore a young person’s trust in people, it can nurture the belief that things can change, that an alternative future is possible.

XLP projects are based on this belief and range from weekly community projects on estates across inner-city London, one-to-one mentorship and keeping young people in mainstream education. No matter what your level of experience is, we will support and train you to help us as we strive to create positive futures for our children and young people.

THE IMPACT

XLP’s team operate in over 50 schools and on 33 estates, engaging with over 1,600 children and young people each week – working to create positive futures and make a sustainable impact on poverty and educational failure.
