Through the Community Sponsorship Programme of the Home Office we have the opportunity to resettle refugee families to the UK. This gives this family a chance to rebuild their life and future which they otherwise would not have.

After an application with the Home Office is made and have gotten the ‘go-ahead’ from local authorities, we meet the family at the airport and take them to their new home. For at least one year we support them with finding their feet in the UK and help them with translation, accessing schools, connect them to other services and provide social support.

Resettlement is a life saving tool for refugees most at risk.

In 2018, 1.4 million people needed to be resettled.

Only 92.000 were eventually resettled in that year.

[UNHCR, 2019]

Resettlement changes futures

A personal story from Dave Bagheri

Local Updates

CENTRAL LONDON

Our first resettled family of six originally from Damascus, Syria, lived in Jordan until we welcomed them in East London in September 2017. In the 3 years they have been here the family has embraced life here in Britain and have mastered English in no time, two of the sons are working in Starbucks and the youngest sons are thriving in primary and secondary school.

BERMONDSEY

Our Bermondsey team is preparing to receive a family in Greenwich. Having done the application and necessary checks with Home Office and Local Authority we should be able to welcome a family once COVID-19 restrictions on resettlement are lifted.

EDINBURGH

Having secured a great property in Edinburgh, our aim is to help resettle a family in 2021 in our Scottish location. The team have build strong relationships with the Local Authority and other organisations such as the Scottish Refugee Council to ensure we support the family as best as we can.

EAST LONDON

With our East London community we are working on an application for a refugee couple or small family that could move into a small flat in Newham. We are currently putting the resettlement plan together and forming the team

GUILDFORD - Woking

Our second family; dad, mum and three kids, originally from Aleppo, Syria came via Lebanon to the UK. Our Guildford team set up a home in Woking and picked them up from the airport in January 2019. The team have supported the family throughout the last two years seeing the family settle in, get involved in church activities and have seen their family grow to four children since arriving here.

DOMINION S1

The Dominion Service 1 community are working towards resettling a family in the Kingston area. So far positive meetings have been had with the Local Authority and we continue to be on the look out for a suitable property for the prospective family.

CROYDON

One of our newest church locations are passionate about supporting a refugee family in their local community. We are in the early stages of putting an application together and finding a property that would become a home to those who might have not had a home for years on end.

NEWCASTLE

In June 2019 our Newcastle team had the privilege to welcome another family of 5 at their local airport. The Syrian family from Daraa in South Syria spend years in Jordan before coming to the UK through our resettlement project. The three sons were excited to finally start school and dad has transformed the back garden in an amazing veggie patch where he spends his time when he is not working in a local Lebanese restaurant.

DOMINION S4

We are working towards putting an application in with the Home Office to resettle a family in South Norwood where we have identified a 3 bed flat. The team is putting the work in by doing research, writing up a plan and get all the paperwork ready for approval.

GUILDFORD - Brockham

After welcoming a first family in 2019, our Guildford location is already working on resettling another family. We have a great property in Brockham near Dorking that will be perfect for a small family to move in. All being well we expect to welcome a family some time during 2021.
