THE NEED
The UK has a shortage of foster families. Currently, 7,180 foster families are needed in our nation.
In 2016, 3,175 unaccompanied asylum-seeking children arrived in the UK who are in need of a home and family.
The number of looked after children continue to increase. In 2017 there were 72,670 looked after children, an increase of 3% from 2016.
OUR RESPONSE
As a church, we are partnering with Home for Good, a UK-wide charity that connects people interested in fostering or adopting with local authorities and agencies across the country. Home for Good can support anyone who is considering fostering or adopting by talking about the process and answering any questions and concerns. They also equip families with tools, such as, courses that will help them make the decision or prepare them to start fostering or adoption.
We believe that the church is ideally a place to help find families to foster or adopt – we can make a difference in the lives of children who are most vulnerable by opening our homes and hearts.
We provide a community of support for families who decide to adopt or foster. Some of the ways we can help include: cooking, cleaning, DIY, being a mentor or tutor, helping with homework, etc.
THE IMPACT
Since June 2016, through our partner ‘Home for Good’, there have been 31 families who registered an interest in fostering and/or adoption, nine of which are actively on the journey to becoming foster carers or adopters
